Geniuses.

It seems that the move will take a bit longer than expected. I screwed something up, so now I keep getting a 500 internal error every time I try to access my site. Good thing I haven’t deleted this site yet.

So on to other subjects. I just spent the past hour watching a video called The Last Lecture, given by Randy Pausch, a Computer Science professor at Carnegie Mellon University who just recently died of cancer. That man is amazing. I can only imagine what it would be like to be in one of his classes.

His lecture was on achieving childhood dreams and how to live your life. He had an extremely optimistic and profound way of looking at life, and I think he was one of the few people in this world who actually “got it.” Don’t ask me what it is that he “got” though, because if I knew, then I’d understand life in the same way he does. And obviously, I don’t.

So here’s his lecture. It’s about an hour and 15 minutes long. I think I’m going to buy his book, as well.

EDIT (7/26/08 8:15pm): My, it seems I fixed the problem faster than I predicted. Well, here’s the new site: http://static-void.luudoan.com. The downloads currently aren’t working, and I will be keeping the old site for about a week just in case.

ZOMG NEW HOST?!

Yes. I got a host. A paid one. And a domain. Just not for this website.

OMG?!

So for all of you following my blog, I will be moving soon. In fact, I’m in the midst of moving as I type. However, I’ve got three websites to work on at the moment, so it’s taking a bit longer than normal.

Expect another update soon.

Good things come out of screwing up your computer?

Wow, I haven’t posted in a while. Sorry! I’ve been so wrapped up in making websites that I completely forgot!

Anyway, yes, that’s what I’ve been doing this past week. I’m actually working on two websites right now — one for my family (as a sort of communication thing to keep in touch with everyone) and another for this anime that I’m currently obsessing over.

Yeah, I know, I thought I was done making anime sites. But when I tried to look up some stuff about the anime on google, there was nothing. Nothing! How can such a great anime have almost no websites in the US? That anime was ranked like #6 in Japan! What’s the deal here? So yeah, I’ve decided to make a website for it.

The thing that’s taking forever is the fact that I’m using the Drupal content management system. I’ve never used it before, so it’s taking some getting used to. Reminds me of the first time I used Wordpress for blogs…

Oh, I almost forgot about the title of this blog. So apparently my mom’s cell phone lost all of its contacts since we changed the SIM card in Vietnam to work internationally. Then she tried to open up her Palm Desktop on the old computer (my brother’s computer), but apparently someone uninstalled it. Thus, she went into a state of hysteria and started freaking out about losing everything…

So I went into the computer, did some digging, opened up the Palm folder in the C:\ directory and found her address book .DAT file. We opened it in Notepad, but it looked kind of funky. Then I downloaded Palm Desktop off the internet and accessed her stuff from there…

Funny what you learn when you’re always messing up your computer. I don’t know how many times I’ve uninstalled something and then needed it again a year later.

Well, that’s all I’ve been doing other than going to the gym. Though I think I’m going to grab my mom’s calculus and statistics books from Sac State to get ahead. Unfortunately, I can’t register for classes until August, so I don’t know what textbooks I’ll need. But at least I know that I’m taking general ed courses this year. Those don’t change. So as long as I have a book, it’s all the same information. Right?

Man, I need a physics book though.

You have 122 unread messages.

I have returned to the cleanliness and privacy of my home! Technology! Air conditioning! Wrin! Spacious rooms! High-speed wireless internet! Boring fruit! Well, okay I’m not excited about the boring fruit part.

The first thing I thought when we got back was, “Oh my God. There’s no motorcycles on the road!” Actually that was probably the second thing I thought. The first was “Auuuurrrrggghhh.” (Upon waking up from my very short nap). But seeing as that’s not a very interesting thought to write about, I decided to talk about my second thought. Except that I just wrote about the first thought, so the previous sentence was completely useless.

I’ve been reading too much Douglas Adams.

The flight was rather exciting, save the fact that my butt was about to fall off about halfway through the flight. I feel for the people who go on frequent business trips halfway across the world. Though if I were flying business class it wouldn’t be too bad. They get lounge chairs and footrests. But beside that, I was kept occupied the entire time. I watched four in-flight movies! Vantage Point, 21, An Empress and the Warriors, and Divergence. The last two are Asian films, haha. They were all pretty good movies, and I recommend all of them. Especially Vantage Point. That one was pretty trippy.

There was also some incident where they made an announcement asking for a medical doctor. Not sure what happened, but when we landed, some quarantine officers came on board to check it out. Probably to make sure we didn’t get infected or something, haha. And then when we went through customs, they sent us to a secondary check because some funky thing shows up on the screen whenever I return to the US. All because some idiot stole my passport in Canada several years ago. If I ever find him, I’m going to give him a piece of my mind. A very angry piece. Because this is going to happen every single time I return to the country. After that, we lost a suitcase. But I suppose that’s bound to happen when you check in 8 bags. (What? We brought a lot of food there and back!)

Anyway, my inbox is full of email, and our mailbox is full of junk mail. Though I did receive some interesting mail. Like Microsoft Office Visio 2007! And something telling me to register to vote! And my AP scores! Except I already knew my scores because my college posted them online a few weeks ago. But it’s fun to act like I’m excited all over again. It adds some sparkles to life, you know? Anyway, I don’t think I’ve ever actually talked about my scores, so here we go: English Lit/Comp - 4; Calculus AB - 5; Music Theory - 4 (Aural subscore - 5, Nonaural subscore - 4).

When I first saw the calculus score, I thought, “WHAT THE HELL?!” Because really, I thought I had totally screwed up that exam. That was the one where I ran out of time on the last question of the calculator section, and therefore had to finish it during the noncalculator section, which resulted in me not being able to get a value for an answer that I needed to use for the next problem because I couldn’t use a calculator. So I put “x = the answer to the previous quesion”, and used that for my calculations.

Apparently, they bought it. Either that or they were very amused and gave me points for craftiness. But seeing as they have a very strict point system, I doubt it’s that.

Well, back to normal life. We brought back a ton of food, though. Like lotus tea!

But it’s nice to be back on Commodore Wrin with our home network instead of some random internet cafe computer or my mom’s annoying Dell laptop that has only 2GB of RAM with crappy unsecure networks. A 5-minute YouTube video took about 15 minutes to load over there! It was dreadful.

Home Sweet Home…?

Well, we’re back in Saigon! Actually, we’ve been back for a couple days, but I didn’t think it was interesting enough to blog about.

We leave for the US in two days! Maaaaan. It’ll be back to eating two meals a day and normal boring fruit. Really, I think I’ve eaten more in Vietnam than during the entire school year. American food is so bland. That’s it. In college, I’m taking the first opportunity I can to go abroad. Any food is better than American food!

Speaking of going abroad, my dad’s friend (remember that guy with the super awesome house?) said that he has some connections, and might be able to get me to Vietnam for a few months next summer to teach English! Or something like that. I’m going to have to bother my dad to keep in touch with him because that would be way cool.

Let’s see. My cousin also has a whole external hard drive full of music, so I decided to take some of it. Oy, I have some crazy cousins. One has full hard drives of music, another has almost every anime known to man, and another made a ton of money off ebay.

Anyway, the Miss Universe Pageant was hosted in Vietnam this year. We were watching it live on TV yesterday. They kept having promotion commercials for tourism in Vietnam. The entire time, I was thinking, “I’ve been there! Oh! I’ve been there too! Hey, I’ve also been there!” the only place we haven’t been to is the west side. My aunt tells me it’s “the coconut place”. Next time I come to Vietnam, I need to go there. But other than that, we’ve been to pretty much every major city in this country. Hanoi, Nha Trang, Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Hue, Hoi An…

Oooh, yesterday I compiled a list of all the animes I’ve seen/read. It was very long. Apparently I’ve seen or read 87 animes. (That doesn’t mean I’ve seen the whole thing though…)

That’s it for now. I will probably be back in the States for my next blog. Nooo! I don’t want to go home!
